Robert De Niro directs this intimate, cold war espionage drama exploring the origins of the CIA via the wartime agency, the Office of Strategic Servies (OSS). Matt Damon stars as Edward Wilson, Yale graduate and Skull and Bones member, co-opted into counterintelligence during World War II, and later to play an integral part in the formation of the Central Intelligence Agency. Damon's character is based on real-life spymaster, James Jesus Angleton, who was tutored by infamous English double agent, Kim Philby, played in the film by Michael Gambon as Dr Fredericks. Angelina Jolie is the disconnected wife, William Hurt is Wilson's boss, Alec Baldwin is the world-weary FBI connection, while De Niro has made small cameos for himself and old mate, Joe Pesci.
