James Stewart: The Shop Around the Corner / The Stratton Story / The FBI Story / The Spirit of St Louis

James Stewart Box Set. 'The Shop Around the Corner' (1940) - Alfred Kralik (Stewart) and Klara Novak (Margaret Sullavan) are employees at Matuschek and Company, a general store in Budapest. Klara and Alfred are constantly at odds with each other, butting heads and disagreeing on almost everything. Both are enamored of their respective pen pals, who serve as welcome distractions in their lives. Little do they know, they are each the other's pen pal and, despite outward differences, have unwittingly fallen in love through their letters. ' The Stratton Story' (1949) - This fact-based sports drama chronicles the life of famous pitcher Monty Stratton. Stratton (Stewart), a star athlete, loses his leg when his hunting rifle misfires during a wilderness outing. Initially, Stratton's career is derailed, and he wallows in the depth of depression; however, with the encouragement of his loving spouse, Ethel (June Allyson), he decides to get back in the game. Equipped with a prosthetic leg, Stratton eventually works his way back to pitching in the minor leagues. 'The Spirit of St. Louis' (1957) - This lauded biopic follows legendary pilot Charles Lindbergh (Stewart) as he makes his historic solo transatlantic flight from New York to Paris. The film details earlier events in Lindbergh's aerial career, including his stints as a stunt pilot and a flight instructor, but it focuses largely on his dangerous journey over the Atlantic Ocean in his signature monoplane, the Spirit of St. Louis. Battling the elements and sleep deprivation, Lindbergh struggles to make a safe landing in France. 'The FBI Story' (1959) - Recounting his storied FBI career, veteran agent Chip Hardesty (Stewart) narrates events occurring from the 1920s to the 1940s. After marrying Lucy Ann (Vera Miles), a local librarian, Hardesty is supposed to resign from the agency. But when he hears J. Edgar Hoover speak, he has a change of heart, fully embracing the agency. As he travels from one investigation to another with his partner, Sam Crandall (Murray Hamilton), Hardesty faces down famous mobsters, Klansmen and spies.
