Stand By Me

Rob Reiner's skillful adaptation of Stephen King's novella 'The Body' is an odyssey of exploration and self-identity as four boys endure a difficult two-day trip to find the body of a dead youth. The film moves freely from adolescent reminiscence to male bonding with standout performances from all the young actors, particularly River Phoenix and Wil Wheaton. Kiefer Sutherland turns in a scruffy, horrifying caricature of teenage nihilism and Richard Dreyfuss and John Cusack turn in cameo roles.
