A gentle romantic comedy, set in London during the approach of World War II, with a young actress, a playwright and a director all struggling to advance their careers in the West End. When they meet by chance, they become involved in an emotional love triangle while at the same time trying to get a production up and running. Support comes from Anjelica Huston as the ebullient American patroness, Terence Stamp as a wise-cracking piano player and Lauren Bacall as an old-time head-liner in this sumptuous, sentimental period comedy. Based on the improbably named novel 'There's a Porpoise Close Behind Us' by Noel Langley.
