Queen Christina
One of Garbo's finest performances is as the 17th century Swedish queen, fiercely devoted to her country and prepared to wear men's clothing if it means people will take her more seriously. She has decided to forgo the delights of love, until she meets the handsome Spanish envoy, played by John Gilbert who was once, in real life, one of Garbo's lovers. However destiny seems determined to keep them apart.
