Valmont
Based on the novel 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses' and directed by Milos Forman ('Amadeus'), this adaptation stars Colin Firth as the titular lothario and takes a different approach to the source material than Stephen Frears' slightly earlier version starring John Malkovich. Firth's Valmont is a much gentler character while his co-conspirator, played by Annette Bening, is less cynical than the scheming Glenn Close. Comparisons aside, this is a lush and warmly energetic film with a support cast that includes Meg Tilly, Sian Phillips, Fairuza Balk and, all grown up since his 'E.T.' days, Henry Thomas.
