Award-winning, international filmmaker NHNZ has enthralled millions of viewers for more than three decades with their documentaries. In "Colony Z" (1986) behavioural scientist Lance Richdale studied the rare Yellow-Eyed Penguins on the Otago Peninsula for 18 years. "Colony Z" tells the tale of his two favourite penguins Z12 and 115 and documents their unusual lifestyle. "Eating Like A Gannet" (1986) gives us a fascinating insight into these golden-headed fishermen at a time when other fisher folk are struggling to hold their own. In "Song of Protest" (1986), despite the massive destruction of New Zealand's ancient forest the kokako survives and its distinctive call may yet herald its renaissance. "Southern Harbour" (1986) takes a closer look at the harbour's inhabitants and learn how they cope with changes both natural and man-made. And in "Swan Lake" (1986) we look at what happens when the white swan meets the black, and the outcome is not as told in fairytales.
