Writer, director and star Paul Gross explores a defining period in Canadian history, bringing to life stories passed down to him by his grandfather who was at the epic and bloody WWI battle. Gross stars as Seargent Michael Dunne, a soldier brutally wounded in France who returns to Calgary emotionally and physically scarred. While in the military hospital he meets Sarah, a mysterious and attractive nurse with whom he falls in love. So, when Sarah's younger brother signs up to fight in Europe, Michael feels compelled to return with him and, like thousands of other Canadians, they are sent to fight in the third battle of Ypres, a battle against impossible odds, commonly known as Passchendaele.
