My Favourite Season ( Ma Saison Preferee )

When their aging mother is faced with encroaching infirmity, middle-aged brother and sister Emilie (Catherine Deneuve) and Antoine (Daniel Auteuil) are reunited after years of estrangement. Familial conflict is ever-present after the mother moves in with Emilie and her family. However the siblings soon find themselves resurrecting their childhood bond in the face of outside criticism in this searingly unromantic and intensely perceptive family drama. Director and film critic Andre Techine was nominated for the Golden Palm at Cannes, where the film opened the festival in 1993.
