The Graduate

A landmark film of the late '60s that's still just as pungent and funny. Dustin Hoffman, in his first major film role, plays an ultra-naive college graduate who's seduced by an older woman (Anne Bancroft who in real life was less than six years Hoffman's senior), then falls in love with her daughter. Featuring songs by Simon and Garfunkel and based on Charles Webb's novel, it received the Oscar for Best Director in 1968, and garnered six other nominations including Best Actress, Best Actor and Best Screenplay Adaptation.
