Lancelot du Lac ( Lancelot of the Lake )

Aka 'Lancelot of the Lake.' This very unconventional take on the Arthurian legend has an emphasis on the clanking awkwardness of the knights in full armour and a juxtaposition of noble ideals with the mud-and-blood reality of the times. When the grail quest peters out, Lancelot and Guinevere indulge in adulterous passion that sets the knights against each other and causes an escalating series of bloody clashes - evocatively filmed at knee-level. This dark, humanistic drama is a million miles from "Camelot".
