Bagdad Cafe

This enchanting and affectionate fable unveils, in a series of wonderful vignettes, the developing friendship between several oddball characters. Marianne Sagebrecht is a corpulent Bavarian tourist who, stranded somewhere in the Mojave Desert, arrives one day at the near-comatose Bagdad Cafe, a dusty roadside cafe run by an irascible black woman (CCH Pounder). Director Percy Adlon takes his time in showing their differences, as well as their blossoming friendship. A wonderful comedy-drama about misfits in tune with the world which features a show-stealing performance by Jack Palance as an eccentric but charming painter.
