Ryan's Daughter

Robert Bolt ("A Man for All Seasons", "The Mission") wrote the screenplay of this long but rewarding study by David Lean about a rich, unsatisfied, married woman (Sarah Miles) who falls for a British soldier (Christopher Jones) during the British colonial rule of Ireland. Robert Mitchum is cast as a British school teacher; John Mills is excellent as a crippled mute.
