Spellbound

In this acclaimed, Oscar-nominated documentary, the focus is on eight teenagers and their families as they prepare to take part in the 1999 National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. The heat is on as kids from different ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds from across America have their spelling skills tested (including such jawbreakers as 'nephelognosy' and 'chateaubriand'), as their pensive parents - and the country - watch. This is the stuff of high drama as stomachs churn, hearts race and palms sweat - and that's just the audience! "A genuine nail-biter" - David Stratton, The Movie Show.
