Elephant

Inspired by the 1999 shootings at Columbine High School, this stylish, understated drama from Gus Van Sant ("Drugstore Cowboy") depicts a day in the life of several American high school students. With a cast of mostly non-actors and largely improvised dialogue, the film focuses on two outcasts whose insecurities lead them to take drastic and violent action. Awarded Best Director and Best Film at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.
