Carandiru
Carandiru, Brazil's largest correctional facility. Built to house 3,000 inmates, it is home to over 7,000 murderers, rapists, drug addicts and criminals. It is a powderkeg waiting to explode. This is the shocking true story of the deadliest prison riot in history. A powerful drama relates the tale of a Brazilian prison doctor trying to prevent the spread of AIDS amongst the inmates of the brutal Carandiru penitentiary. As the conditions within the building go from bad to worse, the stage is set for a tragic uprising from the prisoners. Directed by Hector Babenco ("Pixote").
