Sympathy For Mr Vengeance

The first part of Chan-wook Park's revenge trilogy, precursor to the incredible 'Old Boy', centres around a young deaf man, Ryu and his dying sister. In order to afford the kidney she needs, Ryu goes to extreme measures, but it seems that even bad deeds with good intentions bring bad consequences. Beautifully shot and perhaps less overtly visceral than its sequel this engrossing story is harrowing and humane in equal measure.
