One of the classics of American independent cinema, this impassioned, pro-feminist drama chronicles the events in a bitter strike by Chicano zinc miners in New Mexico. When an injunction is issued against the workers, the wives of the strikers' take to the picket line. Boycotted by most cinemas on its McCarthy-era release; director Biberman, actor Will Geer, producer Paul Jarrico and screenwriter Michael Wilson were subsequently blacklisted for their part in its production.
