We first meet Keane (Damian Lewis), an unkempt, thirty-something, searching desperately at a New York bus terminal for his six-year-old daughter who was apparently lost there some months earlier. He's near breaking point, bordering on schizophrenic, as he stumbles through the streets, muttering to himself and having random encounters. Lewis invests this intense character with a richly ambiguous inner life and the supporting cast, including young Abigail Breslin ('Little Miss Sunshine') are outstanding. Emotionally captivating from the first frame, and shot in gritty cinema verite style, this is both a poignant and edge-of-your-seat exploration of loss, mental illness and the meaning of family.
