Junebug

Embeth Davidtz plays Madeleine, a dealer in avant garde art, who challenges (and is challenged by) the middle-class, back-water mediocrity of her in-laws. She and her husband (Alessandro Nivola) are visiting them for the first time whilst she is on the trail of an eccentric local artist (Frank Hoyt Taylor). Mum's a bit frosty, Dad's non-committal, but she finds a friend in her pregnant, and perky, sister-in-law (Amy Adams) who is enamoured of Madeleine's city glamour. A wryly sweet, fish-out-of-water indie, that earned Adams a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the 2005 Academy Awards.
