Ten Canoes

Rolf de Heer's uniquely enchanting and humourous fable is the first film spoken entirely in Aboriginal languages. Set before the time of Western contact, a group of warriors is out searching for goose eggs. The film moves between past and present, from black and white to colour, as an elder relates the story of a man who coveted his brother's wife - to a young man who covets his brother's wife! Winner of six AFI Awards and a Special Jury Prize at Cannes the film is narrated (in English) by legendary Aboriginal actor David Gulpilil, and stars his son, Jamie, as the young warrior with a wandering eye.
