The Prestige
Two budding magicians start out as friendly competitors and end up deadly enemies in this hypnotic, turn of the century thriller from director Christopher Nolan. Obsession, jealousy and deceit are the driving forces, with Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale rivetting as rival illusionists who will stop at nothing in their attempts to out-do each other. Nolan and his writer brother, Jonathan, adapted the screenplay from the book by Christopher Priest who specifically requested Nolan take the helm. Impressive cinematic sleight-of-hand, with a strong supporting cast that includes Michael Caine, Scarlett Johansson and David Bowie.
