Discovered in a local talent quest by ambitious manager Curtis Taylor (Jaime Foxx), three soul-singing friends (played by Beyonce Knowles, 'American Idol' contestant Jennifer Hudson and Anika Noni Rose) become one of the biggest all-girl super-groups of the 1960s, along the way discovering fame isn't all it's cracked up to be. Based loosely on the story of the Supremes, Beyonce takes the 'Diana' role, Eddie Murphy is the singer who loses his spotlight to the next big thing, and power-house singer Hudson won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her movie debut. Based on the hit Tony-winning Broadway musical, first produced in 1981.
