Based on the memoir of Augusten Burroughs, this dysfunctional '70s family comedy/drama has an outstanding ensemble cast with Annette Bening as the delusional mother, Alec Baldwin as the alcoholic father, Brian Cox as an eccentric psychiatrist and at the centre of the story, Joseph Cross is Augusten, sent to live with the unorthodox shrink and his two daughters played by Evan Rachel Wood and Gwyneth Paltrow. Despite this abundance of talent the film was largely panned by critics, though Bening picked up a Golden Globe nomination for her role.
