Stranded in the New Mexico desert, a family find themselves under attack by savage 'hill people', mutilated after exposure to radiation from nuclear tests. Alexandre Aja ('High Tension') directs this remake of Wes Craven's 1977 classic (he serves as producer here) with visceral abandon, and saturated, retro-hip style. At first staying faithful to the original, Aja seems to get carried away with his own mayhem resulting in a somewhat ham-fisted evisceration of the American swagger, that nonetheless delivers on the tongue-in-cheek blood and guts.
