Borderland
Inspired by true events that took place in 1989, in the bordertown of Matamoros, Mexico, this unnerving, ruthless thriller features three college students, who, on the eve of going their separate ways, decide to have one last debauched fling over the border. But their fun is cut short when one of them goes missing, kidnapped by a Satanic cult specialising in human sacrifice. Director and co-writer Zev Berman was in college when the real massacre took place, and found himself caught up in the investigation as Mexican authorities frantically searched for a missing student, only to find his body, and a dozen others, that had been ritualistically slain by drug runners hoping to make themselves impervious to law enforcement. Brutally gripping with an excellent cast that includes Jake Muxworthy, Rider Strong, and a chillingly against-type Sean Astin.
