Ben Affleck directs and stars in this gripping political thriller based on real events that took place during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. In November 1979, the American embassy in Tehran is stormed by militants and 52 Americans are taken hostage. In the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to escape and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. Knowing that it is only a matter of time before they are found out and probably killed, the CIA turns to their top "exfiltration" specialist, Tony Mendez (Affleck), to come up with a plan to get the six Americans safely out of the country. The "best bad idea" Mendez pitches involves everyone masquerading as the crew of a cheesy Hollywood sci-fi film, a daring ruse he sets up with help from an acerbic producer (Alan Arkin) and a veteran makeup man (John Goodman). With Bryan Cranston, Victor Garber. Academy Award and BAFTA winner for Best Film.
