In 1990s Montreal, Laurence (Melvil Poupaud) tells his girlfriend Fred (Suzanne Clement) that he wants to become a woman. In spite of the odds, in spite of each other, they confront the prejudices of their friends, ignore the counsel of their families, and brave the phobias of the society they offend. For ten years, they try to live through this transition, having embarked upon an epic journey which, unbeknownst to them, may cost Fred and Laurence themselves and each other. The third major feature by celebrated young Quebec director Xavier Dolan (following "I Killed My Mother" and "Heartbeats"), this dazzlingly beautiful film garnered two awards at the Cannes 2012 festival, including Best Actress for Suzanne Clement in the 'Un Certain Regard' section.
