Mean Creek

Filmmaker Jacob Aaron Estes makes his feature debut with this suspenseful coming-of-age drama set in small-town Oregon. A birthday boat-trip turns into a night-marish journey into the wilderness when a group of teens decide to pull a prank on the town bully. Strong performances from the young cast (including Rory Culkin), and a pervasive realism make this an insightful and gripping exploration of friendship and consequences. Premiered at Sundance.
