Stop-Loss
Ryan Philippe stars in this powerful drama as Brandon, a decorated soldier who has just returned home to Texas. The war took its toll and he and his buddies are having trouble assimilating back into society, but just as he's settling in he finds he is to be 'stop-lossed' back to Iraq. Battling between his patriotism and his sense of right and wrong, Brandon goes AWOL in order to get help from the senator who only just pinned a purple heart on his chest. As the U.S. heads into its fifth year of fighting, this pull-no-punches film from director Kimberley Peirce ('Boys Don't Cry') tackles a controversial U.S. policy that has been little aired in public. Strong cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Channing Tatum, Victor Rasuk and Abbie Cornish.
