Jarhead
When Anthony Swofford (Jake Gyllenhaal) followed family tradition into the Marines he wasn't counting on the 1991 Gulf War. Trained as a sniper with buddy Troy (Peter Sarsgaard) he comes under the command of Sgt Sykes (Jamie Foxx) and heads off to Iraq. Based on the memoirs of the real Anthony Swofford, Sam Mendes' controversial film aims to show the brutal reality of warfare in a foreign land. The heat, the boredom and the sheer terror.
