Midnight Cowboy (Blu-ray)

A landmark American film, the first X-rated movie to gain mainstream acceptance and Hollywood laurels: a British director, John Schlesinger, starkly and brilliantly explores the underside of the American dream gone awry. Jon Voight is Joe Buck, a lonely, confused southern Texan banished to New York, where he performs sexual services for either men or women. Dustin Hoffman is Ratso Rizzo, a sleazy, small-time con who personifies the nightmarish cityscapes of New York's moral abyss. An excellent screenplay from the late Waldo Salt.
