Lawrence of Arabia

Director David Lean follows the heroic, true-life odyssey of T.E. Lawrence (Peter O'Toole) in this dramatic portrait of the famed British Officer's journey to the Middle East. An adventure of truly epic proportions, it is also one of the most critically acclaimed and beloved motion pictures of all time. The superb cast includes Alec Guinness, Anthony Quinn, Jack Hawkins, Jose Ferrer, Anthony Quayle, Claude Rains, and Omar Sharif as Ali. Then unknown, Peter O'Toole, was nominated for an Oscar for his extraordinary performance, though Lean originally intended to cast Albert Finney. The film itself scooped seven statues, including one for Lean's direction, and despite its fudging of real events remains a stunning evocation of Lawrence's undeniable charisma and influence.
