Uncovering the Real Dickens

Presented by Peter Ackroyd, the author of best-selling biographies including "Dickens" and "London", this innovative mix of documentary and dramatic reconstruction vividly recreates the author's extraordinary life and resembles the plot of one of his own novels. Anton Lesser stars as the novelist; Prunella Scales and Timothy West play his parents; Miriam Margoyles is Catherine Dickens, his wife; and Natasha Little takes on the part of Ellen 'Nelly' Ternan, the 19-year-old actress whom Dickens fell in love when he was 48. This lavish literary production sets out to blur the lines between Dickens' fiction and his actual life; between drama and biography.
