Sherrybaby

Maggie Gyllenhaal was nominated for a Golden Globe for her extraordinary performance as Sherry, an ex-con trying to get her life back on track and establish a relationship with her young daughter, born just before Sherry served three years for a drug-related robbery. Young Alexis has been in the care of her aunt and uncle and has become a sweet affectionate child, but as Sherry struggles to stay on the straight and narrow, her past comes back to challenge her good intentions. Documentary-maker Laurie Collyer's debut drama was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and is a sobering glimpse into the life of an addict and the desperate difficulty of trying to fix a broken life.
